Abstract: |
Taking the Wuliangsuhai and Daihai Lake as research objects, the release rates and exchange fluxes of dissolved inorganic carbon(DIC) across the water-sediment interface were investigated in this work by employing columnar simulation method. According to the simulation experiments, the concentrations of DIC in the overlying water were equilibrium on the 15th and 10th day of Lake Wuliangsuhai and Lake Daihai respectively. The estimate results of diffusion fluxes showed that there were approximately 8 443.63 t of DIC entering overlying water from sediments in non-Phragmites communis area of Lake Wuliangsuhai while 7 335.52 t of DIC sinked in sediments across the water-sediment interface in Lake Daihai during 90 days in summer. It indicated that the sediments from Wuliangsuhai and Daihai Lake act as source and sink for DIC respectively. It was also found that the shoal and deep water zones of Lake Daihai act as source and sink for DIC. According to the release experiments of different section sediment cores, dredging could impact the diffusion direction of DIC, which may change the function of source or sink of sediments for DIC. |
