Abstract: |
Pesticides and microplastics are typical pollutants and may coexist ubiquitously in soils. Different types and structures of plastic products lead them to display a high affinity for the absorption of organic compounds. Therefore, microplastics may act as a vector for pesticides, thereby combining their pollution with that of pesticides, resulting in joint toxic effects on organisms, which may harm the soil ecosystem food chain and even human beings. In this study, the effects of microplastics and pesticides on soil environments are summarized, the current progress in research regarding the adsorption of pesticides by microplastics and the underlying mechanisms are reviewed, and the combined toxicity of microplastics and pesticides on soil organisms is analyzed. The deficiencies of the available studies and several future directions of interest are proposed. This information may be helpful in the risk assessment of microplastics and pesticides in soil environments. |
