Micro/nanoplastics are ubiquitous in the environment and pose a great threat to terrestrial systems. The adverse effects of micro/nanoplastics on plants, as an important component of terrestrial ecosystems, directly affect the safety of the ecosystems and the food chains. This paper reviewed the sources, absorption pathway and toxicity of micro/nanoplastics in terrestrial plants. The direct and indirect toxic effects of micro/nanoplastics on terrestrial plants were emphasized, as well as their impact on the environmental fate and toxicity mechanisms of other pollutions, such as migration and transformation in plants, were emphatically introduced, in order to provide valuable reference for the study of environmental behaviors and ecological security assessment of micro/nanoplastics in terrestrial plants. It is pointed out that the impact of micro/nanoplastics on terrestrial plants is complex, more attention should be paid to the long-term dynamic study of micro/nanoplastics in the actual environment, and the modeling of terrestrial plant - micro/nanoplastics pollution response mechanisms should be established, so that the toxicity effects and ecological risks of micro/nanoplastics on terrestrial plants can be better predicted and evaluated. |
