3).Sep. 13-15, 2007, International Symposium on Green Technology and Ecosystem Health, Linan, Hangzhou, China. Oral presentation: Phytoremediation of soils contaminated by heavy metals based on weed species

Professional Interest:

Land pollution and its effects on health; Hyperaccumulators screening; ·Phytoremediation of heavy metals and PAHs contaminated soils; Environmental Fate of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs); Rhizosphere processes of hyperaccumulation; ·Molecular basis of hyperaccumulation

Main academic points and contributions:

1).Established a system screening method of heavy metal accumulator plant, and the invention patent based on this idea has been authorized by China government;

2). Consummated the main judge standard of hyperaccumulator, i.e. typical concentration property, translocation property, tolerance property and enhancement factor property, rather than only two standards as common accepted as typical concentration property and translocation property;

3). Proposed the theory that hyperaccumulator can also be found in unpolluted site. For the first time in the world systematicly identified hyperaccumulative plants based on weed species, and discovered 3 hyperaccumulators and 4 accumulators to Cd, which is a great breakthrough in phytoremediation theory and practice;

4). Named rhizosphere of plant as a special “ecological remediation unit” in contaminated soil and summarized its mechanism;

5). Proposed the idea treating the biomass of phytoremediation, i.e. keep it in ore mining tailing pool, which may be a better method to resolve the problem.

6).Identified 1 Cd excluder plant and 1 cultivar of Chinese cabbage with Cd low accumulation.

7). Constructed a series of technology to phyto-remedy the soil contaminated by Cd and PAHs, then produce Chinese cabbage simultaneously.
